Yann LeCun is an industry leader when it comes to AI, machine learning, deep learning and related disciplines. He is the VP and Chief AI Scientist at Meta and has been working with Meta since 2013, becoming their first Director of AI Research back then. A Professor of Computer Science and Neural Networks at NYU for nearly 20 years, he founded the NYU Center for Data in 2013. Yann is an excellent choice to book for your AI events, given his stature in the industry.
Co-Founder and Advisor at Element Inc. today, Yann has been a prominent member of the AI field for a long time. His research from the 1980s and 90s has revolutionized the landscape of AI, with several of his innovations acting as a foundation for modern AI innovations. US Banks employed his technology to read cheques nearly 25 years ago. He is also credited with furthering the study of convoluted neural networks that are pivotal to computers recognising images. He has been a Research Associate at the University of Toronto, Research Scientist at THALES, Research Staff Member at AT&T Bell Laboratories, Department Head of AT&T Research Labs and Fellow at NEC Research Labs.
Yann holds an Engineering Diploma from ESSIE Paris and a PhD in Computer Science from Sorbonne University. The 2018 A.M. Turing award recipient, Yann was awarded this honour along with his contemporaries Geoffrey Hinton and Yoshua Bengio, all of whom are referred to as the “Godfather of AI”. Before he began his association with Meta, Yann was the Co-Founder and Chief Scientist at MuseAmi – a company that developed innovative software and technology for all things related to music. He also co-founded the International Conference of Learning Representations. Currently, he is a member of the Science Advisory Board for the Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics at UCLA.
A professor, researcher and R&D manager, his expertise in deep learning has warranted him winning the IEEE Neural Network Pioneer award, the 2018 Harold Pender award, and the Princess of Asturias award. He is currently the Co-Director of the Learning in Machines and Brain Program of CIFAR.
