Esther Choo’s work as a physician has been lauded several times over and she has recently forged her way as the Founder of Equity Quotient to achieve her goals of cultivating a safe and considerate work environment for all. Passionate about improving organizational culture and educating about best practices when it comes to patient care, Esther can be booked as a speaker for a range of events and speaks about work culture, racism, effects of COVID-19 on healthcare amongst other things.
Having studied medicine at Yale University and completed her Masters in Public Health, Epidemiology & Biostatistics from Oregon Health & Science University, she did her resident training from the Boston Medical Centre. Adopting the teaching route, Esther now works as an Associate Professor at Oregon Health & Service University, her alma mater. Her other roles include being a Founding Member of TIME’S UP Healthcare – where she is working to ensure that workplaces are safe, and women are given the due respect they deserve.
Esther’s work has been recognised several times and she was the recipient of the Outstanding Physician Award, the OHSU Emerging Leader award and the SAEM Young Investigator Award. Named President of the Academy of Women in Academic Emergency Medicine, Esther has also been invited to feature on news channels like CNBC and MSNBC and hosts the Doctor’s Log podcast. In her appearances on platforms like these as well as when she writes for publications like the NBC Think, Self Magazine and The Lancet, Esther is seen promoting gender parity, multi-culturalism and diversity in the medical fields.
As an expert of diversity and inclusion for the medical field, Esther has also achieved the role of President of the Gender Equity Research Group. Her TEDx talk How Healthcare Workers are Responding to the COVID-19 Pandemic, is crucial in understanding the dynamics of the current medical field and she has also been invited to talk at The Atlantic Pulse Health Summit, Accenture, and The Aspen Institute.
