Kevin Ahmaad Jenkins earned his Ph.D. in Sociology and Criminology from the University of Florida and today serves as the Vice-Provost Postdoctoral Fellow and Lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania. Seeing his mother be misdiagnosed with a respiratory condition when she was in fact suffering from kidney failure, has led Kevin to dedicate his time to studying cognitive decline and chronic kidney disease and a Core Investigator and Health Scientist at Philadelphia VA Medical Centre. As a speaker, Kevin is known to speak on topics related to healthcare systems, how race comes into play in the healthcare system, diversity, inclusion, equity, and how to approach difficult topics about race.
Before Kevin earned his Ph.D. he worked as a Columnist at The Herald Sun, a Graduate Teaching Assistant and a Grant Manager at the University of Florida. He was also a Lottery Host for the North Carolina Education Lottery and an On Field Announcer for the Durham Bulls Baseball Club. Since 2000, he has been the CEO of Konquered, a Business Consulting organisation that serves as a one-stop shop for evidence-based equity solutions. This is in fact Kevin’s USP as a speaker where he amalgamates personal stories as well as evidence-based factual strategies in order to promote inclusivity, diversity, and equity in workplaces.
Ultimately working to reduce if not eradicate health disparities that are rooted in race and ethnic discrimination, Kevin was listed in National Minority Quality Forum’s 40 under 40 Health Leaders, given to those who represent the next generation of thought leaders in reducing health disparities. He was also given the Educational Visionary Award by The Association for Program Administrators of CSTEP and STEP in 2018. Kevin has also worked closely with Johnson and Johnson, McDonald’s, and the Virginia Department of Health and Human Services.
The two-time award-winning journalist, Kevin is also a DE&I Strategist and helps organisations to re-evaluate and redesign their workplace culture by implementing DE&I sensitivity.
