Jim O’Neill is a leading economist, widely known as the founder of the term BRIC, MIKT and MINT. Throughout his career, Jim has worked for several top banking firms building a strong knowledge of finance, economics and banking which he now covers as a public speaker. Jim is best known for the time he spent serving as the Chairman of Goldman Sachs Asset Management and as the Commercial Secretary to the Treasury, a prominent member of the Conservative Government during David Cameron’s tenure.
Jim first began his journey in the world of economics after he obtained both a BA and MA in Economics studying at Sheffield University. Jim has also achieved a PhD in economics, a testament to his prowess in the subject. After his studies, Jim joined the banking sector initially working for the firm Bank of America. Finding his feet in banking, Jim has since worked as an economist at the Marine Midland Bank, the head of the Fixed Income Research Group at the Swiss Bank Corporation and the Head of Global Economics Research for Goldman Sachs. Back in 2013, Jim retired from working at Goldman Sachs and later went on to become the Commercial Secretary to the Treasury.
