Demis Hassabis is a name that people from the world over recognise today owing to his undeniable contribution to the wave that is AI. Co-Founder and CEO of DeepMind, Demis has been at the forefront of AI development for nearly 14 years. Named one of the 100 Most Influential People by Time 100, Demis is a speaker who can blow the socks off his audience by his sheer brilliance, when booked for a wide range of events.
As artificial intelligence gets more intelligent by the day, there are more concerns than ever about what the most capable AI can do – Demis shares in these concerns. He is advocating slowing down on the further development of AI technologies as he believes AI might be on the brink on making tools that can do more harm than good to society. This is completely opposite from Demis aims to do with DeepMind, an AI lab that keeps humanity at the core of their efforts to make machines smarter. In 2014, DeepMind was acquired by Google, leading to Demis developing AlphaGo, the first computer program that beat a professional human Go player.
Demis has arguably always been the best at everything he does: a childhood chess whizz, a five-time World Games Champion, and the person who co-designed Theme Park as the Lead AI Programmer at Bullfrog Productions only at 17 years of age. He did this in the gap-year he was asked to take before he could achieve his BA in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge on account that he was still so young. Demis went on to receive a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from UCL and was the Founder and CEO of Elixir Studios – a computer games developer that created AI Simulation games. It’s no wonder that he has been named in the 50 most influential people in Britain by British GQ, WIRED’s Smart 50 list, and won the Dan David Prize future award for his work on AI.
Recipient of the CBE honour in 2018, Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences, and the Global Swiss AI award, Demis’ excellence is revered and celebrated. He was inducted as a Fellow of the Royal Society and Royal Academy of Engineering in 2018. Working towards ensuring that AI evolves in a way that is beneficial to society, Demis is cognizant of the ill-effects of unmonitored, unregulated AI development. He now uses his platform as a speaker to warn people of this as well as educate them about the possibilities of AI. Hire Demis Hassabis, an industry leader, for your next AI event!
