A keen ultra-athlete his whole life, Flynn was training for the Marathon Des Sables when he was first diagnosed with the incurable degenerative neurological disease. A piece of news that wouldn’t settle in anyone's mind easily lead to Alex feeling anger and denial up until a year later when he arrived at the Sahara desert in order to partake in the toughest 156-mile footrace on earth. A realisation set in that he had to come to terms with his new-found condition and do as much as possible to raise funding to find a cure.
Over the years, Alex has campaigned for multiple charities including Cure Parkinson’s Trust, the European Parkinson’s Association, the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research and the Parkinson’s Institute. Astonishingly, he has run 160 miles of the Bavarian Alps, covered 3,256 miles of the USA in 35 days and heroicly traversed Europe from London to Rome in 30 days with a fractured right tibia, all in the bid to run, walk or even crawl a staggering 10 million meters.
In January 2014, Alex Flynn achieved what seemed like an impossible target to many and is now encouraging others to join in with the hashtag #KeepMoving on social media. He also uses his platform as a speaker to not only spread awareness on the incurable disease that changed his life but to influence others with his unique and uplifting perspective on life which powers his motivation and determination.
A true warrior and an inspirational figure, Alex touches the lives of everyone he tells his story to, making him the ideal motivational speaker for any corporate event or function.
